AB Academy Theatre School



Alicia Bardsley - LRAM, ARCM, GNSM, Cert Ed.


Alicia trained at the Royal Northern College of Music as a singer, she performed extensively in the North West in Opera and Oratorio both as a soloist and a member of the BBC Northern Singers.

She founded the Alicia Bardsley Singers, who became a nationally known choir performing in The Purcell Rooms, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Royal Albert Hall in the school proms. The choir toured France, Germany and Victoria Austrailia in 2001 and had toured extensively throughout Great Britain. In 1997 the choir was chosen to represent English Choirs at the Aberdeen International Music Festival. The choir was also honoured with an invitation to be part of the Queens parade in celebration of her Golden Jubilee.

In 1990 the choir extended to become the AB Centre of Performing Arts and then in 2003 The AB Academy Theatre School, offering full time courses.

Alicia was head of the faculty of Performing Arts at a Manchester High School for 27 Years teaching Music and Drama before taking early retirement to concentrate on the Theatre School.

Alicia has pupils of all ages, many older, who wish to act, sing or play the piano, as she points out you are never to old to learn or enjoy the Performing Arts. 

Mary-Ann McPeake - BA (Hons), ATCL, LAD, DTTLS,

Drama Teacher/Admin

Mary-Ann trained at the Academy before going on to gain her degree in Performing Arts with Drama under Middlesex University and her DTTLS Teaching Degree at Stockport College.

Mary-Ann taught at Ramillies Hall School working with SEN Pupils working toward their GCSE and Btec Performing Arts, aswell as teaching the GCSE, Btec and A'Level at the Academy.

Mary-Ann now teaches Act one 3-7 Years, she has the magic touch as all the group works well for her and enjoy Saturday Mornings. She then takes Act 2 for drama, working at improvisation, mime and scripted pieces.

Mary-Ann takes part in all productions, back stage and as an actor, she has performed at the Queens Jubilee, Victoria Gardens, London, Sieti, Italy and has performed to a wide audience on the T.I.E Pantomime tour at Schools and Nursing Homes. Mary-Ann also worked with the GCSE students and A'level students at the Academy.

Kieran McPeake - MMU Cert Ed, ATCL, LAD

Drama/Music Teacher, Technician 

Kieran trained at the Arden School of Theatre and Stockport College gaining his Teaching certificate, LAD and ATCL.

Kieran has a wide range of Performance experience ranging from Pantomime to Shakespeare, also a soloist having a baritone voice singing both classical and popular repertoire at corporate and Masonic functions. Kieran is a fully qualified teacher and stage technician having worked at Stockport College and worked freelance before becoming a lecturer in music and drama at the Theatre School.

Kieran takes part in the productions as well as working hard backstage, he writes our pantomimes and has a few published books. 

Julie Stubbs - Trinity Musical Theatre, Lamda Gold Acting

Dance Teacher/Choreographer

Julie studied dance with Jools Beech specializing in Jazz, Fosse, and Modern with work also in Ballet and Tap dance.

Children attending her classes learn dances in all styles including street and hip hop.

Work is taught that suits the ability of each group so that no pupil feels out of their depth when performing. Julie choreographs all the dances so they tell a story. All students enjoy dance and she has even inspired the boys to dance and overcome their initial reluctance.

All staff have their police checks, safeguarding certificate and first aid Certificates and have worked professionally. All students are insured while in our care. All students remain within the building until collected none are allowed to wait outside the premises.
